The $1500 hairclip

Cousins Mallory and Makayla were staying with us again for the weekend. We had a wonderful day planned: We were already scheduled for a photo session for Aubrey and Addison's 3rd and 1st birthdays and decided to have a few surprise photos taken of all four cousins together to give to Nana Hamilton and Aunt Beth for Christmas. Afterwards, we planned to go out to lunch and then to Stone Mountain. About 2 miles down the road, Addison started gagging/choking. We ripped her out of her carseat, and thankfully, she quickly regained her composure. It was then that we realized that the 1 1/2" long hairclip she was wearing was now missing. The x-ray confirmed our suspicion.

We waited the recommended 5 days to see if she would "pass" it, but additional x-rays showed that it still had not left her stomach. Through prayers and tears, we handed over our baby to be put to sleep and have the hairclip removed via endoscopy (hence the $1500 out-of-pocket expense). Thankfully, Addison is fine, and we have a "headbands and hairbows only" policy at our house now.
